All About Busks, Lacing, and Boning

The design of a corset is dependent on two underlying factors to be successful: a) the properties of the boning material, and b) the amount of tightening allowed by the lacing design. If you want to feel comfortable while in your corset you are able to lace and tighten up to a point, you should rely on the boning for providing the rest of the support.

A popular boning material is nylon coated spring steel that is usually a lighter color and is created in a group of lengths, thicknesses, and widths. When selecting the spring steel boning for your choice in corsets the thickness is what should be checked out. When the proper thickness of steel boning is selected it is very pliable but it is difficult to bend.

You can use busks that open and are sometimes used on the front of corsets to allow you to slide into and out of your corset without another person's help. The busk fasteners were developed near 1860 and launched with simple busks, today's spoon busk was created more than a decade later.
