Corset Bulletin
There has always been a following for
corsets by both men and
women for hundreds of years. Shapes and
construction techniques have been changing
and so have the materials and types of items
used. For you to reproduce the shape you
desire, you need to have knowledge of the
types of items available in today's
marketplace.
Ultimate Body Shaping With Corsets
The oldest created corsets are typically the
ones with a moderate amount of curves or
reshaping. The breasts appear to be pressed
down and their shape changed to represent a
minimized silouhette. To attain this shape you
have to contain and fight the usual shape and
typical curves of a woman's body.
Busks, Boning and Other Corset Facts
Any top quality corset design relys on two
fundatmental factors: a) the type of material
used in the boning, and b) the amount of
tightening allowed by the lacing design. If you
want the corset to feel comfortable when you
are wearing it you are only able to tighten the
laces to a point, the rest of the support is
delivered by the function of the boning.
A good choice in boning material is steel
covered with nylon that is usually light in
color and is delivered in a variety of
thicknesses, widths and lengths. When looking
for a particular type of spring steel for your
corset the "thickness" is more important than
the width. Spring steel, when it is of the
proper thickness it is somewhat flexible but is
quite difficult to bend.
You can also use busk fasteners that open
and are typically used with the front of
corsets to allow you to dress yourself in the
corset without assistance. The first appearance
of a busk on a corset was near 1860 and
initiated with a very simple busk, the more
complicated spoon busk was developed in the
1870's. Any of these corsets can be found in
our corset superstore.
