Corset History
Corsets have been utilized
by both men and women for 100's of years.
The construction methods and shapes they
produce have changed due to new technology
and so have the materials used. In order to
reproduce the correct shapes, you need to
have an education of the materials and items
you can choose from.
Corsets for Shaping the Body
The oldest created corsets are typically the
ones with a moderate amount of curves or
reshaping. The breast flesh tends to be
contained and create the appearance of a
minimized profile. To attain this shape you
have to contain and fight the usual shape and
typical curves of a woman's body.
Busks and Boning
A successful corset design is related to two
components: a) the type and strength of boning
used, and b) the ability to pull together the
lacing. In order for you to have a comfortable
feeling while wearing your corset you are
capable of lacing up only so much, you should
rely on the boning material to provide the rest
of the structural support.
Spring steel boning is nylon-coated steel
that is white in color and is delivered in a
variety of thicknesses, widths and lengths.
When looking for a particular type of spring
steel for your choice in corsets the thickness
is what should be checked out. You are able to
judge when the correct spring steel boning is
selected because it is very pliable but it is
difficult to bend.
You can use busks that open and are
sometimes used on the front of corsets to allow
you the freedom to get into your corset without
requesting help from anyone. The busk fasteners
were developed near 1860 and launched with
simple busks, the more complicated spoon busk
was developed a few years later. Both of these
items can be found in our corset
superstore.
