Corset Bulletin
There has been corset worship by both
sexes for centuries. The types of shapes and
construction techniques have changed due to
new technology similar to the changes in
materials used. In order to develop the
correct shapes, you need to have an
understanding of the materials available to
you on today’s market.
Body Shaping and Corsets - The Perfect
Match
The corsets from earlier times are usually
those with the least amount of curves. Your
breast shape tends to be constrained and their
appearance reshaped. To develop this silhouette
you have to contain and fight the typical shape
and inherent curves of woman's body.
Busks and Boning
A corset of high quality depends on two main
factors: a) the characteristics of the boning
material used, and b) the ability to tighten
the lacing. In order for the corset to fit you
comfortably you can only lace up and tighten so
much, the remainder of the support is done by
the boning.
A popular boning material is nylon coated
spring steel that is usually a lighter color
and is created in a group of lengths,
thicknesses, and widths. When selecting the
spring steel boning for a corset that will look
like it was designed for you the width is of
minor concern while your primary focus should
be on the thickness. The steel boning
characteristic makes a perfect corset because
it is pliable and flexible, but it is nearly
impossible to bend them.
Busk fasteners are also used, they open and
are located on the front of corsets to allow
you the freedom to get into your corset without
requesting help from anyone. The busk fasteners
were developed near 1860 and initiated with a
very simple busk, the more complicated spoon
busk was developed in the 1870's. Both items
can be found in our online shop.
