Corset Background
Corset worship has been a
part of life for both women and men for
100's of years. The various shapes and
construction methods have varied. and so
have the materials used. In order to
reproduce the figure you desire, you should
have knowledge of the materials and items
you can use in today's marketplace.
The Corset Body Shaping Story
The oldest corsets tend to be those with the
least amount of shape or curves. The breasts
tend to be compressed and the subsequent
reshaping of the breast mass gives a minimized
appearance. To attain this profile you have to
work against the curves and shape of of a
woman's body.
Corset Fabrication With Busks and
Boning
A great corset design depends on two main
factors: a) the strength and other factors of
the boning material, and b) the ability to
tighten the lacing. In order for the corset to
fit you comfortably you are able to lace and
tighten up to a point, you should rely on the
boning for providing the rest of the
support.
Steel boning is typically coated in nylon
that is typically a light color and comes in a
group of thicknesses, widths, and lengths. When
you are making a selection for the type of
steel boning for a corset that will look like
it was designed for you the width is of minor
concern while your primary focus should be on
the thickness. When the proper thickness of
steel boning is selected it is quite flexible
and it is extremely hard to bend.
You can sometimes find busk fasteners that
open and are often used on the front of corsets
to allow you to slide into and out of your
corset without another person's help. The first
time busks were used was near 1860 and started
with a straight simple busk, today's spoon busk
was created more than a decade later. All of
these corsets can be found in either our corset
superstore or our corset auctions.
