Corset Chronicle
There has been an attraction to corsets by both women and
men for many centuries. The construction
methods and shapes they produce have varied.
and so have the materials used. In order to
create the shape you covet, you need to have
an education of the materials and items you
can choose from.
Corsets and Body Shaping
The ancient corsets are usually those with
the least amount of curves. The breasts look to
be constrained and their appearance reshaped.
To develop this silhouette you have to work
against the curves and shape of of a woman's
body.
Corset Facts about Boning, Lacing, and
Busks
A corset really depends on two rudimentary
factors to be successful: a) the type and
material used in the boning, and b) the
tightening level allowed by the lacing. To
ensure you are comfortable while wearing your
corset you can only tighten and lace up to a
point, the remainder of the functionality is
provided by the support delivered by the
boning.
A good choice in boning material is steel
covered with nylon that comes in lighter colors
and is built in a wide variety of lengths,
widths, and thicknesses. When you are deciding
on the type of steel boning for the best
looking corset for your shape the width gives
way to the thickness in what is most important.
You are able to judge when the correct spring
steel boning is selected because it is pliable
and flexible, but it is nearly impossible to
bend them.
You can construct a corset with busks that
open and are usually located on the front of
corsets to enable you to put on your corset
without assistance. The busks first appeared in
the 1860's and started with the simplest busk,
the more complicated spoon busk was developed a
few years later. Both of these items can be
found in our corset superstore.
