Corset Story
There has always been a following for
corsets by both sexes for
many hundreds of years. The shapes formed by
the various construction methods have been
able to be modernized similar to the
updating of the items and materials used. In
order to develop the best shape for you, you
might be better informed if you have an
understanding of the items available to you
today.
Body Shaping Corsets
The older corsets tend to be ones with a
moderate amount of curves or reshaping. The
breast flesh tends to be greatly flattened and
provide the appearance of a minimized breast
profile. To attain this straight silhouette you
have to constrain and work against the typical
shape and inherent curves of woman's body.
Busks, Boning and Other Corset Facts
A fabulous corset depends on two primary
factors: a) the strength and other factors of
the boning material, and b) the ability to
tighten the lacing. In order for you to have a
comfortable feeling while wearing your corset
you are capable of lacing up only so much, you
should rely on the boning material to provide
the rest of the structural support.
A good boning material is spring steel
coated in nylon that typically is rendered in a
lighter color pallette and comes in a group of
thicknesses, widths, and lengths. When you are
making a selection for the type of steel boning
for your favorite corset style the thickness is
of primary importance. When the right spring
steel is used it is pliable but it is really
hard to bend.
You can use busks that open and are
sometimes used on the front of corsets to allow
you to slide into and out of your corset
without another person's help. The first time
busks were used was near 1860 and began with
the inclusion of a simple busk, the more
detailed spoon busk was created ten years
later. All of these items can be found in our
online corset store.
