Corset Story
Corsets have been worn by
both men and women for a long time - 100's
of years. The construction techniques and
the shapes they form have been upgraded with
newer technology and so have the components
and materials used. If you are trying to
create the figure you covet, you need to
have knowledge of the items available to you
today.
Corsets and Body Shaping
The earlier corsets tend to be those with
moderate amounts of reshaping. Your breast
shape appears to be in compression and deliver
the appearance of a minimal breast silhouhette.
To develop this shape you have to constrain and
work against the general shape and curves of a
female's body.
Busks, Boning and Other Corset Facts
A quality corset depends on two factors: a)
the type and material used in the boning, and
b) the ability to pull together the lacing. In
order for you to have a comfortable feeling
while wearing your corset you are capable of
lacing up only so much, the rest of the support
is provided by the boning.
A useful boning material is nylon cased
spring steel that delivers a pale color base
and is created in a group of lengths,
thicknesses, and widths. When selecting the
spring steel boning for the best corset for you
the thickness, and not the width, should be of
primary importance. Spring steel, when it is of
the proper thickness it is somewhat flexible
but is quite difficult to bend.
You can use busks that open and are
sometimes used on the front of corsets to allow
you to put on your corset and take off your
corset by yourself. The busk type fasteners
were invented around 1860 and allowed
construction with straight busks, today's spoon
busk was created more than a decade later. All
of these corsets can be found in either our
corset superstore or our corset auctions.
